Frequently Asked Questions
You're paying for three things most socks don't offer: foot health benefits (toe splay, blister prevention, proper alignment), certified organic materials grown without pesticides, and production at OEKO-TEX certified facilities that ensure no harmful dyes or chemicals. Most customers tell us once they switch, they never go back to regular socks.
Actually, the opposite! Our GOTS-certified organic cotton is incredibly soft — customers consistently describe it as "luxurious" and "softer than expected." Because we don't use harsh chemical treatments, the natural softness of the cotton fiber is preserved. Our Merino wool socks are equally soft and have the added benefit of temperature regulation and natural odor resistance.
We've had customers wearing our socks for years with regular use. The key is proper care — machine wash cold and hang to dry for socks (especially the Merino wool, which should be treated like a wool sweater). Natural fibers can shrink in high heat, but they're remarkably durable when cared for correctly. Many customers report our socks outlast their synthetic alternatives, and they actually smell better between washes thanks to the natural breathability of organic cotton and wool.
We stand behind our products. If you experience premature wear or defects within a year of purchase, we'll replace them — it's very rare when customers follow care instructions and order the right size. Just email hello@wearmaro.com with your order number, shoe size, photos of the issue, and how you've been washing/drying them. We'll take care of you.
Both are excellent choices with the same style and fit! Choose Merino Wool if you want natural temperature regulation (keeps feet warm in winter), superior odor resistance, or live in a cooler climate. The composition is 80% Australian Merino Wool, 15% Organic Cotton, and 5% BPA-free spandex — all completely enclosed in natural fibers. Choose Organic Cotton for everyday wear, warmer climates, or if you prefer a lighter feel. They're 95% GOTS-certified organic cotton and 5% BPA-free spandex. Many customers own both and rotate based on the season.
No. We specifically designed our socks so the spandex is completely enclosed in organic cotton (or natural fibers for the merino wool). The 5% is the absolute minimum needed for elasticity and fit, and none of it comes in direct contact with your skin.
These are the gold standards in textile safety. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification means our organic cotton was grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers, and the entire supply chain meets strict environmental and social criteria. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification means the factory and finished products have been tested and verified to be free from harmful substances and use only safe, certified dyes. Together, they ensure what touches your skin is genuinely safe and sustainable.
Our dyes are GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified, meaning they've been rigorously tested to ensure they're free from harmful chemicals. If you have particularly sensitive skin, we also offer undyed options in most products — the cotton's natural cream color with zero dyes at all.
Here's the industry secret: brands legally use the phrase "exclusive of trim" to claim "100% cotton" while their waistbands are made of spandex and polyester — plastics that often come in direct contact with your skin. We don't do that. Our boxers, shorts, and sweatpants use waistbands made from 60% organic cotton and 40% natural rubber. Everything is truly plastic-fre. For underwear that sits against your most sensitive areas, this matters.
Natural rubber comes from tree sap — it's how elastic was made before synthetic plastics existed. Our waistband is 60% organic cotton and 40% natural rubber, covered in organic cotton for extra comfort (so it's not visible). It provides excellent stretch and recovery, and many customers report it feels better than synthetic elastic because it's more breathable and doesn't dig in. With proper care (wash cold, tumble dry low for boxers/shorts/sweatpants), it maintains its elasticity beautifully.
Yes, our threading is 100% cotton — we don't use cotton-poly blends in our stitching materials. This maintains the integrity of our organic, plastic-free products from fabric to thread to tags.
There's a short adjustment period, usually a day or two. Most people describe the initial sensation as "different but not unpleasant." After that, customers consistently tell us they never want to go back to regular socks. As one podiatrist we work with puts it: "When I suggest to a client that they use toe socks, it comes with a warning… they'll never want to wear any other type of sock again!" Your toes will feel more free, more natural — like your feet can finally breathe and move as they were designed to.
You can absolutely wear them with any shoes! While toe socks are especially beneficial with barefoot or wide toe box shoes (they let you take full advantage of the room for toe splay), many customers wear them with regular shoes for everyday comfort. They help prevent blisters, reduce moisture between toes, and promote natural toe alignment regardless of your footwear choice.
The first few times take about 30-60 seconds as you guide each toe into its pocket. Most people get the hang of it within a few wears and can put them on almost as quickly as regular socks. Pro tip: scrunch the sock up first, put your toes in, then roll it up your foot. It becomes second nature.
We're trusted by podiatrists and foot health professionals for a reason. Toe socks give your feet the freedom to move and splay as they were designed — promoting natural toe splay, which can help with balance, stability, and proper big toe alignment. They're a simple and accessible tool for building stronger, more functional feet. That said, we're not doctors — if you have specific foot conditions, consult a healthcare professional about whether toe socks could help your situation.
All of the above! Our toe socks are great for any activity or daily wear. Customers use them for workouts, gym sessions, running, hiking, work, lounging — everything. The organic cotton is soft, durable, and naturally breathable, while the individual toe pockets help prevent blisters during high-activity use. The Merino wool option is especially great for longer hikes, colder conditions, or when you need extra warmth.
Yes! Blisters typically form from friction between toes rubbing together or moisture buildup. Toe socks solve both problems — each toe has its own pocket, eliminating toe-on-toe friction, and the organic cotton helps wick moisture away. Many runners and hikers switch to toe socks specifically to eliminate blister issues.
Yes! Our toe socks are designed for everyone — in fact, around 50% of our customers are women. The sizing is based on shoe size, not gender. Just use our size chart to find your fit.
We're working on kids' toe socks and targeting mid 2026 for launch. Join our email list to be notified when they're available!
Our socks run true to size based on US shoe size: Small (Women's 4-7.5 / Men's 3-6), Medium (Women's 8-10.5 / Men's 6.5-9), Large (Women's 11+ / Men's 9.5-12), XL (Men's 12.5-15). Our boxers and sweatpants also run true to size. Each product page has a detailed size chart. General rule: with cotton, always size up if you're between sizes. If you have wide feet, sizing up is also recommended. And remember, exchanges are easy if your first choice isn't perfect.
Natural fibers like organic cotton and Merino wool can shrink in high heat — that's why we recommend machine wash cold and hang to dry for socks. The Merino wool socks especially should be treated like a wool sweater — because there's no nylon, they will shrink and become less durable in the dryer. Follow these care instructions and your socks will maintain their size and shape. Tip: If your cotton socks are slightly too large, washing on hot and drying on high can shrink them to a better fit.
Relaxed Fit boxers have a looser, more traditional boxer cut with a natural corozo button and fly, plus side slits for easy movement — great if you prefer more room and airflow. Hybrid Fit boxers are a hybrid between traditional boxers and boxer briefs — supportive but not restrictive, with a more contoured fit that stays closer to your body. Both use the same 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton fabric, natural rubber waistband, and OEKO-TEX certified dyes.
For socks, we recommend sizing up if you're between sizes — the organic cotton will conform to your foot, and a slightly roomier sock is more comfortable than one that's too tight. For boxers, they run true to size, but if you prefer a looser fit around the legs (especially with the Hybrid Fit), size up. For sweatpants, consider your preference: size up for a more relaxed feel. And remember, exchanges are hassle-free if your first choice isn't perfect.
For tight or short toe areas, we recommend sizing up. If you've already received your socks and they're slightly too tight, they may stretch a bit with wear.
Our socks are designed for comfort, not compression. The band should stay up without digging in. If you have specific needs for looser-fitting socks or sensitive calves, sizing up can help. We're always looking into new options based on customer feedback.
US orders typically arrive within 3-6 business days. We ship Monday through Friday from our warehouse near Atlanta (we're closed weekends and holidays). Orders placed on weekends will ship the following Monday. International orders vary by destination — usually 1-3 weeks depending on your country and customs processing. You'll receive tracking information via email as soon as your order ships.
Yes! We ship to almost every country on Earth. International shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your location and order size. The amount shown often includes duties and taxes that would normally be collected upon delivery — we use a prepaid service to simplify this and avoid surprise fees. If something doesn't look right, reach out and we'll do our best to help.
For most international orders, import duties and taxes are collected at checkout — so you won't have any surprise fees on delivery. The exact amount depends on your country's import regulations. We unfortunately have no control over these charges as they're set by customs authorities. If duties aren't collected at checkout, you may be responsible for paying them when your package arrives.
Probably not! Tracking delays are common because our fulfillment center ships in bulk and packages aren't always scanned immediately by the carrier. We expect tracking to update within 1-2 business days of the shipping notification. If your tracking shows "label created" or "awaiting item" for more than 3 business days, email us and we'll investigate.
Absolutely! You can start your exchange here: https://wearmaro.com/apps/redo/account/login — it will generate a return label for you. If you added our Free Returns & Package Protection at checkout ($1.98), return shipping is free. Without it, you'd just need to cover return shipping. Need help? Email hello@wearmaro.com with your order number and the size you need.
We understand toe socks aren't for everyone, and we want you to be completely happy. For full refunds, items should be unworn and in original condition — for hygiene reasons, we can't resell socks or underwear that have been worn. Our tip: if you order multiple pairs, try just one pair first before wearing the others. If you've tried them and they're not for you, contact us at hello@wearmaro.com and we'll work with you on a solution. We find 97% of customers are satisfied with the fit!
For standard returns, items should be unworn and in original condition. However, we're not unreasonable — if there's a defect or issue that only showed up after wear, definitely reach out with photos. For worn items you're done with (not defective, just worn out), that's where our Circular Promise comes in: send them back to us for 10% store credit, and we'll ensure they're recycled responsibly.
Once we receive your return, refunds are typically processed within 5-10 business days. You'll receive an email confirmation when the refund is issued, and it should appear in your account soon after (depending on your bank). If you haven't heard anything two weeks after your return was delivered, email us and we'll investigate.
This is an optional add-on at checkout ($1.98) that covers free return shipping if you need to exchange or return your order. If you don't want it or it was added by mistake, just email us and we'll refund it immediately.
We use a specialized factory in China because toe sock manufacturing requires specific machinery not found elsewhere in the world. Our organic cotton boxers, shorts, and sweatpants are made ethically in Istanbul, Turkey. We chose these partners specifically for their certifications and standards. We're a small brand that cares deeply about doing things right — if we didn't trust our manufacturing partners, we wouldn't work with them.
When you're done with any MARO item — whether that's 6 months or 6 years from now — send it back to us free of charge (we provide the shipping label). You'll receive 10% of your original purchase price as store credit. We then work with our suppliers and recycling partners to ensure the fibers are recycled into new apparel, upcycled, or composted. Nothing goes to the landfill. It's our commitment to keeping textiles in circulation and out of the waste stream.
Everything is recyclable. Our socks ship in 100% paper recyclable packaging. Our boxers, shorts, and sweatpants come in recyclable paper bags — not plastic polybags like most apparel brands use. We're committed to plastic-free from the product itself to how it arrives at your door.
For socks: Machine wash cold and hang to dry — they air dry pretty quickly. The Merino wool socks especially should be treated like a wool sweater: because there's no nylon, they will shrink and become less durable in the dryer. That said, many customers do dry them on low heat and they still fit comfortably (just slightly snugger after the first wash). For boxers, shorts, and sweatpants: These can go in the dryer on low heat (tumble dry low) — no need to hang dry. If air-dried items are wrinkled, 15-20 minutes in the dryer without heat smooths them out.
With proper care (machine wash cold, hang to dry), customers report years of wear. While synthetic socks may survive more dryer abuse, they also tend to smell worse faster and don't breathe as well. Natural fibers actually perform better over time — they get softer with washing and maintain their antimicrobial properties. One reviewer noted our socks "outshine all other brands in fit, comfort, materials, and durability."
You can if you feel more comfortable doing that, but it's definitely not necessary. Our products are made with OEKO-TEX certified safe dyes and GOTS certified organic cotton — they're ready to wear right out of the package.
We've earned over 400 five-star reviews from real customers. We're trusted by foot health professionals including podiatrists , foot health educators, physical therapists, and athletic trainers. Our products carry GOTS and OEKO-TEX certifications — independent third-party verification of our claims. We're small because we focus on doing things right rather than growing at all costs.
MARO is short for "marrow" — representing strength and vitality. Like bone marrow regenerates cells, we use natural materials that can return to the earth and regenerate. It reflects our commitment to circularity and working with nature, not against it.
We're a small team based in Massachusetts, but we ship from our warehouse near Atlanta, Georgia. This central location allows us to reach most US customers within a few days.
